What we collect and why

  • Name, email, delivery and billing address, phone number, order history. Used to fulfil your orders, manage your account and subscription, and handle returns and support. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
  • Payment details. Processed directly and securely by Shopify's payment providers. We never see or store your full card number. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
  • Gift recipient details you give us. Used only to deliver the gift. Legal basis: legitimate interest. Please only give us details of people who expect the gift.
  • Email address for marketing. Our newsletter and offers, only with your consent or after a purchase. You can opt out at any time via the link in every email. Legal basis: consent / soft opt-in.
  • Device and browsing data (IP address, browser, pages visited). Used for site security, fraud prevention, understanding how the site is used, and advertising measurement (see our Cookie Policy). Legal basis: legitimate interest; advertising cookies only with your consent.

Who we share data with

We use carefully chosen service providers who process data on our behalf: Shopify (our store platform and payments), Recharge (subscriptions), Klaviyo (email), Judge.me (reviews), Smile.io (loyalty programme), Rebuy (product recommendations), Google and Meta (analytics and advertising measurement), Hotjar (site experience analytics), our delivery couriers, and our accountants where required. We do not sell your personal data. If Difference Coffee or its assets are ever sold, customer data may transfer to the buyer under the same protections. We disclose data where the law requires it.

Some providers process data outside the UK (for example in the United States). Where they do, transfers are protected by UK-approved safeguards such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

Order and account records: as long as you have an account with us and for 6 years after your last order (tax and legal requirements). Marketing lists: until you unsubscribe. Analytics data: per the retention settings of each tool, typically 2 to 26 months.

Your rights

You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, to receive it in a portable format, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. Requests are free and answered within one month: email orders@differencecoffee.com. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Visitors from the United States

We honour applicable US state privacy rights, including the right to opt out of the sharing of personal information for targeted advertising. To exercise this, use the cookie banner to decline advertising cookies, or email orders@differencecoffee.com.
