For the past 5 years, Difference Coffee has been on a mission to deliver the world’s best espresso cup, one which would not just look incredible, but also be superior in its taste and olfactory delivery of coffee. We are pleased to share the result with you.

Designed exclusively for Difference Coffee by world famous Porcelain cup makers, Clubhouse in Italy and in collaboration with the Italian Institute for Coffee Tasters (IIAC), the Difference Coffee Gold cup is the product of intensive research.

All the analysis and data collected during more than 25 years of activity by IIAC has been combined with Club House’s know-how and 25 years’ experience in professional porcelain cup production with the aim of creating the perfect cup for maximising the sensory experience of espresso tasting.

The cup combines some well consolidated features in the espresso Italian tradition with some special details developed in accordance with IIAC recommendations:

Material

The cup is made of porcelain, a material capable of holding a stable temperature for a long time, thus preserving in this way the espresso at the right temperature after extraction.

Headspace

A ratio of 1:3 (25ml to 75ml) between the liquid and overall cup capacity holds the coffee’s aroma inside the cup as much as possible, maximizing the olfactory experience.

Internal bottom oval shape

Necessary in order to obtain a correct fluid dynamic during coffee extraction, which helps obtain an even crema layer.
Height/diameter ratio, as well as internal shape and capacity designed to maximise the aromatic intensity of the coffee.

Varying Thickness

A varying thickness of the porcelain throughout the cup - balances the heat retention at the bottom of the cup where the drink is, whilst tapering toward the top where one’s lips meet the cup, achieving a pleasurable drinking experience.

25ml internal marker line

Helps the barista to quickly assess if the coffee wasn’t under (or over) extracted.

Handle ergonomic design

Perfectly balances the weight of the cup whilst maintaining comfortable sipping.

Finish

24 carat gold, hand painted, to match the incredible rarity of Difference Coffee’s selection of beans.
