THE TASTE EXPERIENCE

Panama Esmeralda Geisha is my favourite coffee because it reflects my cooking philosophy in the cup. It is elegant, balanced and with a strong identify. I am surprised every time when I taste it and rediscover all its nuances, and I am amazed at its complexity.

THE TERROIR

In the lush, mist-shrouded slopes of Boquete, Panama, Hacienda La Esmeralda benefits from an ideal microclimate for cultivating exceptional coffee. The farm's high elevation, ranging from 1,500 to 1,800 metres above sea level, combined with rich volcanic soils and a perfect balance of sunlight and rainfall, creates optimal conditions for slow, flavour-intensive bean development. This unique terroir imparts distinct characteristics to the coffee, resulting in its prized complexity and nuanced flavour profile. Spanning multiple farms across the land, the estate leverages a variety of microclimates, further enhancing the distinctiveness of each coffee's profile.

SUSTAINABILITY

Hacienda La Esmeralda is committed to sustainable coffee production that respects both the environment and local communities. The estate employs environmentally friendly farming practices, including shade-grown cultivation, which promotes biodiversity and natural pest control. Water conservation methods and responsible waste management are integral to their operations. Additionally, the farm supports its workers with beyond fair trade wages and invests in community development projects, ensuring that their pursuit of coffee excellence also contributes to the well-being of the region.
