THE ESSENCE

Last year, Hacienda La Esmeralda's Washed Geisha Nido 7 scored 98 points at Best of Panama and sold at auction for $30,204 per kilogram — the highest price ever paid for green coffee in the world. Nido 8 is the picking that followed: same plot, same trees, same elevation in the Cañas Verdes highlands of Panama. Through our relationship with the Peterson family, we were allocated 30 kilograms. It is, without question, the most exceptional Geisha we have ever encountered — stone fruit, bergamot and a hint of strawberry that lingers long after the cup is empty.
THE TASTE EXPERIENCE

THE TASTE EXPERIENCE

An elegant, high-toned expression of Geisha - jasmine on the nose, bergamot and stone fruit through the cup, strawberry lingering on the finish. The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti of coffee.

I've tasted a lot of Geisha. This is the one that made me go back for a second cup just to check I wasn't imagining it.

MEET THE PRODUCER

Hacienda La Esmeralda is the true origin of the Geisha variety. In 2004, they discovered its exceptional character growing quietly on their farms — an intensely perfumed cup of jasmine florals and delicate stone fruit that set a new standard for the coffee world. They have spent every harvest since refining fermentation and drying to push it further. In 2025, the estate was named Panama Cup Champion, with the Nido lot itself crowned Best of Panama Champion - the clearest confirmation yet that the family's founding obsession, twenty years on, still sets the benchmark.

THE TERROIR

In the lush, mist-shrouded slopes of Boquete, Panama, Hacienda La Esmeralda spans multiple farms, each with its own microclimate — volcanic soil, cloud cover and elevation combining differently across the land to give every lot its own signature. The Nido sits at the estate's most extreme edge: over 2,000 metres above sea level, where thinner air and cooler nights slow the cherry's development to a crawl. That slowness is where the complexity comes from — the longer the bean takes to develop, the more it has to say.

SUSTAINABILITY

Hacienda La Esmeralda is committed to sustainable coffee production that respects both the environment and local communities. The estate employs environmentally friendly farming practices, including shade-grown cultivation, which promotes biodiversity and natural pest control. Water conservation methods and responsible waste management are integral to their operations. Additionally, the farm supports its workers with beyond fair trade wages and invests in community development projects, ensuring that their pursuit of coffee excellence also contributes to the well-being of the region.
