The Essence

The Cup of Excellence, established in 1999 and often referred to as the "Oscars of the Coffee World," represents the pinnacle of coffee competitions, identifying the best coffee farms in each participating country. Rigorous testing by national and international judges ensures only the top-scoring coffees are awarded and auctioned, with proceeds directly benefiting the winners. The 2021 Ethiopia Champion Lot 1 is particularly special, hailing from the birthplace of Arabica coffee. This anaerobically processed, Ethiopian heirloom Arabica sub-variety boasts a super complex cup with rich hazelnut and fermented grape-like qualities. We are proud to share this incredible win with you.
THE TASTE EXPERIENCE

THE TASTE EXPERIENCE

A very complex and refined coffee featuring captivating hazelnut aromas on the nose, with classic dark chocolate flavors, a nuanced white wine taste where complexity shines through, and a bitter grapefruit finish.

This Ethiopian coffee showcases an extraordinary blend of flavours. Each sip reveals a new layer of taste that is extraordinary.

MEET THE PRODUCER

Tamiru Tadesse, a dedicated coffee producer from Bensa, Sidama, has been in the coffee business for twelve years, working with 200 farmers to cultivate unique coffees. In 2020, he established Alo Coffee, taking a bold risk by setting up his main processing station in Alo Kebelle at 2450 metre elevation, a region new to coffee cultivation. This decision paid off when he won the 2021 Cup of Excellence with his anaerobic coffee. Known for its distinct flavor, the coffee from this high altitude is smaller in size but exceptional in taste. Tamiru's success showcases the unique flavors of Bensa coffee on the international stage.
