Mayfair Musings interviewed founder Amir Gehl in a ten question Q&A covering how Difference Coffee began and what sets it apart.

Amir tells the story with characteristic honesty: it started from pure hedonism, when his wife made the family buy a Nespresso machine in 2015. Curious about coffee as an ingredient that grows, he tried rare beans such as Jamaica Blue Mountain and Kopi Luwak at home and was astounded by the difference in taste and quality, launching Difference Coffee in 2016 after a year of research. On what differentiates the brand, he explains the 100 point grading system created by the Specialty Coffee Association and his method of buying champion beans from competitions such as the Kona Cupping Competition, Best of Panama and Cup of Excellence: the coffees are the best because they were discovered in competitions, not because he says so.
