IDENTITÀ GOLOSE:
Identità Golose Drinks the World's Best Coffee in Aosta
Italy's leading gastronomy publication tastes the Esmeralda Geisha Nido 8 at Caffè Nazionale and answers its own headline question.
Identità Golose, Italy's leading gastronomy publication, sent a writer to Paolo Griffa al Caffè Nazionale in December 2025 and answered its own headline question, the world's best coffee? I drank it in Aosta.
Stefano Montibeller's first person review describes the Panama Geisha Nido 8 from Hacienda La Esmeralda, grown at 1,650 metres on Monte Barú, the twin of the record Nido 7 lot whose cups sold in Dubai for nearly $1,000 each. In Aosta it was served at 50 euro a cup by Daniele Ricci, the 2025 Italian barista champion, with notes of jasmine and bergamot, and the piece names Difference Coffee and Amir Gehl as Griffa's partners in bringing it to Italy, quoting the saying the company buys by, rendered in Italian: "Se non è successo nella farm, non succederà nella tazza". If it didn't happen on the farm, it won't happen in the cup.
