PERFECT DAILY GRIND:
Perfect Daily Grind Reports a Honduran Auction Record
Difference Coffee named among the buyers of the record 91.81 point Parainema lot at the 2017 Honduras Cup of Excellence auction.
Perfect Daily Grind, the specialty coffee industry's leading publication, reported on a record at the 2017 Honduras Cup of Excellence: Oscar Daniel Ramirez Valerio of El Laurel sold his top lot for US $124.50 per pound, and Difference Coffee was among the buyers who paid it.
The winning coffee cupped at 91.81 points and was a Parainema, a rust resistant variety that specialty buyers had traditionally been wary of, grown at 1,400 metres, washed and sun dried, with tasting notes running from green apple and jasmine to bergamot, peach and oolong tea. The price stood against an international coffee price of US $1.20 per pound on the day of the auction. As with all 90 plus coffees at the auction, the lot was split in two, and Perfect Daily Grind records that Maruyama Coffee, Uchida Coffee CREAR, Sarutahiko Coffee and Difference Coffee (UK) together paid the top price.
