The Independent covered the most expensive cup of coffee in the UK in September 2020: the £50 Ethiopian Cup of Excellence champion served at Queens of Mayfair, with Difference Coffee as the roaster behind it.

Only 15 servings were available, the beans were bought at auction in June 2020, with Difference Coffee one of only two companies in the UK invited to bid according to Queens of Mayfair, and the rare lot typically retails at around £2,000 per kilogram. Each serving is ground by hand and served in a crystal wine glass. Amir Gehl is quoted on the collaboration, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in quality by showcasing one of the world's best certified coffees, and the piece notes that through the Cup of Excellence programme the Ethiopian farmer received the full auction price.
