A Difference Coffee capsule being loaded into a Nespresso compatible machine

THE BUYER:

The Buyer Compares Difference Coffee to First Growths

Richard Siddle meets Amir Gehl at launch: the world's finest coffees, revered like First Growth Bordeaux, in a Nespresso compatible pod.

The Buyer, the trade publication for the premium drinks on trade, profiled Amir Gehl in September 2016, in the earliest major press piece on Difference Coffee, published just as the company launched.

Richard Siddle's interview captures the original idea: bringing the convenience of the Nespresso concept to high end restaurants, bars and hotels, with hand crafted pods fresh from the roaster after 18 months of research with top coffee farmers. Amir, who told Siddle that "coffee as a category was very under-developed in the UK", compares the world's finest coffees to First Growth Bordeaux, with the Panama Geisha, sold at auction once a year, likened to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The early range covered Hawaiian Kona, Jamaican Blue Mountain, Wild Kopi Luwak and Panama Geisha, with Jonny England, lead judge at world coffee competitions, grading every lot. Harry's Bar in Mayfair appears as an early client, serving an espresso martini made with a Difference Coffee pod and pouring the coffee into a gold cup designed for the company.
